What Shortens The Life Of A Water Heater?

What is the average life of a water heater?

Hi, I’m the Well Pump Man, Christian Smith, owner of Central Indiana Plumbing and Well Service. I proudly serve customers like you every day. My team and I are licensed experts and we can help point you in the right direction. Today I want to share a few tips that can help save you money and extend the life of your water heater system. First, here are a few facts about water heaters you may have not known.

Did you know that the average lifespan of a water heater for a city water setting is typically 6 to 12 years? Consequently, one of the biggest culprits that kill a water heater if you’re in the city is high water pressure due to thermal expansion. Most tanks have a 6-year warranty across the board from manufacturer to manufacturer.  For instance, you can get a longer life out of your water heater if you have a well water system. On the other hand, you can get anywhere from 10 to 15 years in a well water application. We are licensed and specialize in well pump systems too.

Average cost of a water heater for a home?

Secondly, the average cost of a water heater can vary quite a bit. There are a lot of new water heater units on the market that use the same technology as your refrigerator which are heat pump units. For example, a standard electric water heater or gas water heater that’s 50 gallons usually is around $1,300.00 or $1,400.00 installed. However, the larger tanks, power vent units, and tankless units can go into the thousands.

Three things that cause a water heater to fail.

  1. Hard Water Scale
  2. High Water Pressure
  3. Deterioration of Anode Rod

Above all, most of us are looking to save money and every little bit helps these days. All in all, if you think that rust is ruining your water heater give us a call. Or send us an email to schedule an appointment to let us evaluate your water heater and plumbing system.

Third, at Central Indiana Plumbing and Well Service we use and recommend Bradford White water heaters. Our standard water heater comes with a 6-year tank and a 6-year parts warranty. Above all, we like using high-quality equipment. In our opinion, Bradford White makes one of the best water heaters on the market.
